Nick's Bar & Restaurant

I’m all over this place, and to tell you the truth I really hate to even write about it because I honestly try to avoid broadcasting my personal haunts. Growing up in Madison, WI my whole, I can remember a time when State Street was filled with places like this… for some of you transplants let me just say that the State Street you see today, is not what Madison natives think about when the street is mentioned or dropped in conversation.

Nick’s is one of the few locally owned places left on State Street, and that’s why regardless of what people say about the atmosphere, food, or service… my warm opinion of this place will never waver. The wood paneling, old velvet paintings, and black and white checked floor takes you back in time as soon as you step in, and as funny as it may sound when regulars think of nick’s, we think pie and drinks… best cherry pie on the block!

I’ve heard mixed reviews all my life on the food at Nick’s, the point is it’s not a 5 star restaurant, and it’s not trying to be either. I’ve personally had a few different sandwiches and burgers at Nick’s and they’re all good, nothing to bitch about. If your looking for a gourmet meal this is not your spot, but if your looking to chill out, grab a cocktail, and enjoy downtown Madison the way it was meant to be, then Nick’s is a must.
